This policy explains what personal information Miam collects, why, who it's shared with and how to exercise your rights. It applies to the Miam iPhone app, the Miam web version and the miamapp.ca website.
1. Person in charge of protecting personal information
Miam is provided by the Miam team, in Québec. For any question, or to request access to, correction of or deletion of your information, write to the person in charge of protecting personal information: support@miamapp.ca. We reply within 30 days.
2. Information we collect
- Account: your email address and first name, your language, your time zone, the date of your last visit and the status of your trial and subscription. They're stored on Miam's server.
- Meal and drink photos and descriptions: sent only when you run an analysis (see section 4).
- Information you enter and your history: age, sex, height, weight, goal, meals, water, weight and preferences. We use them to calculate your targets and show your progress. They're stored on your device and aren't sent to Miam's server.
- Purchases: the status of your trial and subscription (product, dates, renewal). Miam never sees your card number.
- Usage data: usage events linked to your account (for example, a screen viewed or a trial started) and overall statistics with no identity attached. They help us run and improve the app.
3. Why we use it
To sign you in (code sent by email), analyze your meals, calculate your targets, manage your trial and subscription, send you account emails (sign-in code, welcome, end-of-trial reminder), answer your requests and improve the app. Miam doesn't sell your information, doesn't use it for advertising and doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
4. Photos and AI analysis
To analyze a meal, the photo or description is sent to Miam's server (hosted by Vercel), then to Anthropic, which provides the Claude AI model. Miam's server doesn't save the photo or write it to its logs: it only sends back the analysis result. A small image of the meal stays in your history, on your device. Anthropic handles data received through its API under its own terms and retention policy.
The calories and nutrients shown are estimates. They don't replace advice from a health professional.
5. Service providers
Miam uses these providers, which process information only to provide their service to Miam:
- Vercel: hosting for the website and Miam's server.
- Upstash: account database.
- Anthropic: AI analysis of photos and descriptions.
- Resend: sending Miam's emails.
- Apple and RevenueCat: purchases in the iPhone app. RevenueCat receives your account identifier (your email) and details about your purchase to confirm your subscription status.
- Stripe: payments in the web version.
- ImprovMX: receiving emails sent to support@miamapp.ca.
These providers may process information outside Québec and Canada, including in the United States.
6. Retention and deletion
- Your account information is kept as long as your account exists.
- You can delete your account anytime in Profile › Delete my account. Your account information is then erased from Miam's server. If you've already used the free trial, we keep only an encrypted fingerprint of your email, so the same address can't get more than one trial.
- Daily activity lists (who used the app on a given day) are deleted automatically after 120 days. Overall statistics, with no identity attached, are deleted after 400 days.
- Data stored on your device is erased in Profile › My data, or when you delete the app.
- Purchases made with Apple stay in your Apple account, under Apple's rules.
7. Security
Connections to Miam are encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in codes are single-use, valid for 10 minutes and stored only as a fingerprint. The keys for the services Miam uses stay on the server and are never included in the app. No system is perfectly secure: if a privacy incident posed a serious risk, we would notify you as the law requires.
8. Your rights
Under Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) and Canadian law, you can request access to, correction, deletion or transfer of your information, and withdraw your consent. You can also view, export and delete your data in Profile › My data. You can file a complaint with Québec's Commission d'accès à l'information.
People in the European Union or the United Kingdom: Miam processes your information to provide the service you ask for (contract) and based on its legitimate interest in security and improving the app. You also have the right to object to processing, to ask that it be restricted and to file a complaint with your country's data protection authority.
9. Minors
Miam isn't intended for anyone under 16 years old.
10. Changes
This policy may change. We'll announce any significant change in the app and update the date.
